Many Pittsburghers are surprised to learn that some of the 20^th century’s greatest poets described Pittsburgh as the poetry capital of the United States. Part of this reputation traces to the city’s International Poetry Forum, a nonprofit organization that has hosted poetry readings and education programs by figures such as Seamus Heaney, Gwendolyn Brooks, Grace Kelly, and James Earl Jones. This seminar offers a glimpse of Pittsburgh’s world-class literary heritage and opens discussion about the future of Pittsburgh poetry.
